NuSil Publishes Article for Bringing Silicones to Drug Delivery

NuSil Technology’s article titled “Modification of Silicone Chemistry and Its Influence on Release Rates of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs)”, was published this month in Drug Development & Delivery magazine, a publication that reports the latest developments in the pharmaceutical industry. The article presents the results of technologically advanced testing of silicone formulations and two drugs (APIs). rifampin, best known for use against bacteria which causes tuberculosis, and minocycline, used to treat cholera, pneumonia and various other diseases. The goal of the study was to incorporate rifampin and minocycline into a silicone material and have the drugs release at equal rates day to day, over a 14-day period. Demonstrating expertise in creating reliable silicone for technically-challenging applications such as this, NuSil developed a silicone system that achieved these parameters with no compromise to the silicone or the actives. Analysis supports silicone as an ideal conduit for the delivery of APIs to the body at prescribed rates.
